Established in 2022, the Brown Grand Board of Directors has started a Legacy Board. This tremendous group of individuals has given their time, talents, support, and enthusiasm to further the mission of the Brown Grand – to enhance cultural life in North Central Kansas. We wish to recognize them for their lifelong impact given to our community by serving as a member of the Brown Grand Board of Directors.
Marlene and Everett Miller
Joined the Legacy Board on September 14, 2023
Marlene and Everett Miller were the first to recommend that the Brown Grand movie theatre be fully restored to become a live performing art space in the 1970s. Everett said, “When my wife, Marlene, and I attended a movie here I looked around and said to her that this would be a wonderful performance venue.” At that time, he spoke with Judy Doyen and Leon Genette, at the Chamber of Commerce, and with Jack Roney, owner of the Brown Grand movie theatre. After some pieces fell into place – the rest is history. Everett was also key in adding the Brown Grand Opera House to the National Register of Historic Places in 1973 – over 50 years ago. The couple has served on the Brown Grand Board of Directors for years – Everett being one of the first Board members after the Brown Grand became incorporated as a 501(c)3 non-profit in the 1970s.
Marlene and Everett have a continued desire to see the building restored and used. Marlene’s fondest memory at the Brown Grand was attending the Grand Reopening in 1980, after it was fully restored, and watching “The Vanderbilt Cup” with three of the women who attended the Grand Opening in 1907. The Miller’s dream is that the Brown Grand would have a good future. Donations to celebrate this honor and to help advance their dream for the Brown Grand can be mailed to the Brown Grand, PO Box 347, Concordia, KS 66901.
